Portugal Walk map 32
" Each Bastion A Bastille" A bastion is fortified wall meant to prevent passage. The Bastille was a famous bastion in Paris and guarded the city from the east. It literally became a prison and held radical thinkers such as Voltaire. My walking art is an expression of passage and crossing of borders both literally and figuratively. Walls and borders are a sort of enemy. I find it interesting that in the case of the Bastille a wall became a literal prison. And how mental fortified walls inside myself became prisons for me. Inspiringly the Bastille was stormed and destroyed during the French Revolution. With all that is happening in recent times with borders getting stronger and battles about immigration this gives me symbolic hope especially as I am living illegally in another country .
This is map piece #32 from my current walk, a 350 mile walk across Portugal. The piece is my art done on a map page used for the walk. The map goes with me on the walk and guides me and contains the walk in the dirt, rain , sweat or whatever accumulates on it from the road. I find it special for that reason. The sentence I come up with or find on the walk and graffiti it on the walk. The piece is made on the road, on the walk. My aim with my art is to give a piece of the walk through my art and I do believe that is accomplished because of the aspects of the art previously mentioned. Another part of the art is that the selling of the art is what enables me to further walk. In my mind that is part of the art, the way everything goes together. The walking feeds the thinking which creates the sentences and I do my art on the road doing what I love and the art helps me to keep going and doing what I love.
The thick red line on the Piece is the path I walked.
The map is printed on high quality 250g paper. And the art is done with alcohol based and acrylic markers.
Comes with 3 Screen printed Eggshell stickers.
